I am a kinetic sculptor and aural/visual artist from Sheffield, currently based in South East London and graduated from Goldsmiths University of London in BA(Hons) Fine Art in 2020.
I'm interested in alternative forms of collective art-making and collective action; thinking and making through modular installation and kinetic sculpture to talk about the politics of space, architecture and mapping acoustic memory and speculative futures.
Drawing on chance, action and a circuit of processes to activate objects, I currently use live forms of recording that produce sound as a response to surface contact in its current position; ‘hacking’ objects to make sound to speak about precarity and slippages of time, and how space affects what is heard. Using a practice of making that embodies a material shift of psycho-geographic transience, scavenging and the re-use of materials is important to my process of ‘finding’. It becomes a form of walking through acoustic memories while mapping space. In exploring a way of thinking about architecture, structures, and sculpture that is rooted in ideas of ever-evolving free play and problem-solving; I have become interested in how Foley, a form of aural scavenging, can be used to connect to previous lived experience, and understand memory that is difficult to verbalise.
My current practice (2019) of using the activation of movement through sonic events within ‘hyper-objects’, is also an investigation of how Foley can be used to help people communicate what they’ve heard as an ear- witness to inform, a physical tangible form, creating a ‘listening device’.
